BATHGATE - BRONX EARLY LEARNING CENTER

The project entailed the integration of two existing Bronx preschools into a new, state-of-the-art early learning facility boasting 22 classrooms. This institution caters to children with typical developmental trajectories and those experiencing delays. Through restoring the building's exterior to its original state and a comprehensive interior refurbishment, the design team transformed the previously deteriorated edifice into a distinguished facility. The addition of a new 3rd-floor mezzanine necessitated an independent steel structure, while the outdoor rooftop playground required supplementary structural supports.

Upon completion, the Bronx Early Learning Center emerged as the largest special-needs preschool and early learning center in New York State, heralded as an innovative and environmentally sensitive learning environment. The center was honored with the 2008 Crow Island School Citation, recognizing it as the superior Pre-K through 12 educational facility by American School & University.
