Ace hotel - brooklyn
The Ace Hotel Brooklyn is an impressive mid-rise hotel with a concrete Brutalist-inspired structure. It features gridded, multi-pane windows that reflect the industrialist grit and creative energy of the borough's diverse neighborhoods.
The architecture team encountered unique challenges during construction, such as the presence of an MTA subway tunnel beneath the property. They also needed to limit tunnel vibrations from affecting the hotel’s guest rooms. To address these constraints, the building core had to be strategically located, and structural isolation within the concrete frame was necessary. Through collaboration with the structural engineer, acoustic consultants, and interior architecture and design teams, Stonehill Taylor devised a solution using a Natural Rubber Building Vibration Isolation system.
